120° Parhelion on May 15th, 2002
120° normally do not show colours, with the exception of an occasional bluish hue. The 120° parhelion on May 15th, 2002 was a spectacular sight - it was surrounded by a diffraction colour fringe that was so strong that the parhelion could have been mistaken for a normal 22° parhelion. The right 22° parhelion was exceptionally bright this evening. The parhelic circle was missing, at least visually, but there was a faint fragment of a tangent arc. The images were taken at a solar elevation between 26.4 and 26.7 °

A highpass filter was applied in Photoshop, the image was then recombined with the original shot since it was underexposed and too blue. The colours are unchanged.
