Inferior Mirage in Scotland

Mirages- with the exception of the typical road mirages - are sometimes hard to detect. I had taken these pictures in 2008 without noticing what I had imaged and discovered the mirages when enlarging them grossly this year.
Inferior mirages need a layer of cold air over a warm ground. In this case the water was considerably warmer than the air above it. To observe inferior mirages, a point of view close to the ground and a pair of binoculars or a tele lens are crucial. Nikon D80, processed with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0.

Mirage at Inverary, Scotland on September 4th, 2008. It is not only the boat that is miraged, but the whole shore. Note the typical vanishing of the horizon line between the object and its image.

Mirage over the sea near Iona on September 3rd, 2008.
