Birch Pollen Corona on April 2nd, 2011
The spring of the year 2011 brought unusual amounts of pollen, but only twice pollen coronae could be observed at Trier. Maybe the various pollen species of different sizes spread at the same time only produced the typical brownish aureoles often observed when the sky is not quite clear. On April 2nd, the birches were in full blossom. Only the slightly elliptical shape reveals the coronae as pollen coronae. This shape, without distinct lobes, is typical for birch pollen coronae.
