Hoar Frost Crystals on Leaves
A microscope nicely shows small hoar frost crystals on the surface of frozen leaves in the shape of columns (sometimes hollow), hexagons in different varieties and thicknesses, and hollow or solid columns and pyramids. If the temperature is near the freezing point, the crystals often look imperfect or damaged, showing inclusions and molten parts.
