Diffraction Rings on Dragonfly Eyes
Sun reflections on dragonfly eyes are small and close enough to show impressive diffraction rings. In contrast to the disks of defocussed star images seen through a telescope, the seeing conditions do not degrade the pattern. The camera's optics and the structure of the dragonfly probably both contribute to the diffraction pattern. Nikon D80, Tamron macro lens SP AF 1/2.8, f= 90 mm, processed with Adobe Photoshop Elements.
