Penumbral Lunar Eclipse on September 16th, 2016
The lunar eclipse of September 16th was a penumbral eclipse. As the Moon did not pass through Earth's shadow (umbra) but only its penumbra, the typical copper and red hues of a total lunar eclipse could not be observed. What's worse, at the beginning of the eclipse the Moon had not yet risen above the horizon and at the beginning of visibility, clouds veiled the sky. For Trier, the penumbral lunar eclipse was even only partial.
