Subsun and Subparhelion on September 21st, 2012

On a morning flight to Frankfurt I was able to watch a halo display that could also be seen from the ground after landing.Unfortunately I could not photograph the best phase of the display. Because of the flight direction, the region closest to the sun could not be seen and the subsun was very close to the window corner. Nevertheless a right parhelion turned up and before descent to Frankfurt parts of the other halos involved in the display. To by big surprise an infralateral arc and traces of a 46° halo appeared on the processed images. They could not be detected visually.
All images, with the exception of the subsun, are strongly processed. Photographing through a half-frozen aircraft window with dust grains and scratches is quite a challenge - I usually avoid it.

Subparhelion. Olympus OMD E-M5, Olympus OMD E-M5, Olympus M.12-50mm F3.5-6.3, 1/400 sec. at f/16 and 200 ISO. Compared to a normal parhelion, the subparhelion appears upside down (i.e. mirrored vertically).
