Refraction in Hoar Frost Crystals
Large hoar frost crystals reflect sunlight in the same way as the microscopic airborne ice crystals do that sometimes produce halos. A big crystal like the one imaged here caught the sunlight and produced a spectrum like a parhelion formed by myriads of small hexagonal plate crystals.
